Course Directory / Northern Ireland / County Armagh

Located in Northern Ireland to the south of Belfast, historic County Armagh is also known as the "Orchard County." Dating back 1,500 years, this was the birthplace of Brian Boru and is also the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland.

Today's visitors can explore the ancient capitol of Ulster, as well as a wealth of National Trust Properties, museums and attractions for all ages. Among them is the oldest inscribed Christian standing stone in Ireland, which can be seen at Kilnasaggart Stone in the southern part of the county.

For natural sights, the Slieve of Gullon is an extinct volcano and sits at the center of the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 20-mile Newry Canal Way is a traffic-free trail for cycling and walking, and numerous lakes, like Craigavon Lakes, are popular for boating and angling.

Armagh is Northern Ireland's smallest county and there are fewer than 10 golf courses. Among the best are County Armagh Golf Club, a scenic parkland located in the "Cathedral City" of Armagh. Dating back to 1893, Lurgan Golf Club is an attractive parkland design along Lurgan Park.
